Denise Joyner Bio

Denise Joyner, originally from Baltimore, Maryland graduated from Walbrook Senior High School as a Drama Major and attended Towson State University as a Theater Major. She is also a certified Television Producer through Baltimore City Public Access Television. She has performed in several stage productions, and dramatizations, written, produced and directed several musicals and one revue; and has published one book of poetry and self-published six books. Her writings have been published in David C. Cook Publishing Company, Essence Magazine, and several local publications. Denise produces CDs and DVDs as well as designing graphic art work for literature, clothing, products, marketing and multimedia. Denise Joyner is married with three children.

At the early age of 8, Denise's mother started her in Beginning Piano at the YWCA in Baltimore. From there she was introduced to theater, art and dance. Denise's mother died when she was 10 years old, leaving her and her younger brother. Her mother's twin sister took care of the young children, not neglecting to keep Denise involved and exposed to the cultural arts. This exposure further deepened her love for the arts. Denise started writing poetry at age 9. While in her last year of Jr. High School Denise shared some of her poetry with her English teacher, who was very impressed. Unbeknownst to Denise, her teacher made arrangements with Baltimore City Public Schools to publish her book "Reaching" for the Jr. High School graduation. Denise dedicated it to her mother. By the time Denise was 15 she was a published poet. During that year she met both Nikki Giovonni and Melba Moore. After graduating from High School, Denise self-published her own book entitled, "Sensations", which she placed in the public library in Baltimore.

Denise Joyner previously owned and operated Big Events Entertainment Company as Producer/Promoter for seven years. She worked as a Drama Instructor at Fort Stewart, CYS (Community Youth Services) SKIES Program in Georgia, developing and conducting workshops and Drama Camps. Denise has been a licensed minister for 22 years, she has started theater ministries in 3 states and has taught Online Theater Ministry to Christian Believers in Lagos Nigeria.
